  • Overview


    Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, the incumbent repairs, services and maintains engine driven Generators and electric welding machines and ensures a safe working environment.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Replaces defective parts and completes preventative maintenance required.
    2. Orders parts as required in order to complete repairs.
    3. Inspects returned equipment for proper operation and/or damage by the customer.  
    4. Ensures clean and organized work environment at all times.
    5. Prepares and completes paperwork for all machine repairs,
    6. Occasionally required to service equipment and customers off-site.
    7. Maintains communication with all branch personnel.
    8. Occasionally advises customers regarding best equipment for their projects.
    9. Performs troubleshooting of machines, calibrations on-site and off-site.
    10. Knowledge of computers, welding process, equipment set-up, welding gases, welding wires
    11. Perform other projects and duties as assigned.

    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds (e.g. tools) and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds (e.g. small welders or engines). 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision (e.g. reading wiring diagrams and wire color codes).

    • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts (e.g. welders). 
    • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles (e.g. when welding) and risk of electrical shock (e.g. wiring welders). 
    • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals (e.g. at customer sites); and outside weather conditions (e.g. traveling to customer sites). 
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.



    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
    • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
    • Ability to speak effectively to customers, clients, vendors, managers and other employees of the organization.



    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 



    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    • Post secondary education equivalent to a one year Technical College or equivalent is an asset.
    • Three years of related technical experience.
    • Working knowledge of positioning equipment, welding application and equipment is an asset.
    • Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures.

    • Ability to effectively build relationships with customers and co-workers.
    • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions.
